Ray Chavez
award winning photographer

Ray Chavez

I am Ray Chavez, a native from Mexico City, living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am employed as a staff photographer for The Oakland Tribune, where I have won multiple awards locally and internationally during the last 14 years.

In this year I have won in the following contests,

National Association of Hispanic Journalists ñ Award, Photojournalist of the Year.

National Association of Hispanic Journalists, General News Award.

National Headliner Awards, Third place in the Photography Portfolio category.

Ruben Salazar Journalism Award, Best Photography for The Mayan Way project.

James Aronson Award for the Mayan Way series.

APNEC First and Second place for picture stories.

Easy Bay Press Club, Two First places and one Third place in single categories.

UNITY 2008 Photo shootout, Second Place for ethnic diversity in Chicago.

I have passion for photography, there is not limit for creativity either. I freelance for weddings, quinceanyeras, social events, model portfolios, and CEOs portraits.

I really enjoy covering sports, protests, entertainment, and breaking news. Of course, I love landscapes and willing to travel anywhere, too

I don't think there's a hard subject to photograph, it's up to the photographer's eye, the use of light, composition, angles, expressions, spontaneity and then capture that historic moment. I always bring compelling images.

I have designed my own web site to show off some of my work as a reference for students, hobbiests, and prospective clients, who would like to hire © Ray Chavez Photography services.
